What is an Automated Press?

Let’s dive in and talk about traditional and automatic presses. It is crucial to differentiate between the manual and automatic press to realise how Expert AMT adds value to your business. So, read on to discover the hidden possibilities that an automated press machine can give you. In manufacturing, a machine press uses high pressure to deform a workpiece by pressing with two dies opposite to each other.

This press exists in many forms depending on the shape of the workpiece. For example, the manufacturing industry uses extensively press brakes, punch press, shop press, and much more, to solve its daily problems. The only common factor is using high pressure for deformation. However, the design of the press machine itself makes it insufficient for today’s required speed as the demand increases.

Imagine a scenario where we can spot the inefficiencies that a traditional press will have and the advantages that press automation will provide your business with. Every press is made up of two heavy dies facing each other, and they are the essential parts of any press machine. The pressure they provide when colliding deforms the material into the expected shape needed to carry out the coming manufacturing stages.

Every facility must change the dies of its presses to produce the different shapes of the parts involved. However, given the circumstances of current businesses willing to produce more orders per day, such heavy dies cannot be replaced easily. So, what’s the problem at hand?

Imagine that during a press operation, the dies need to be changed every two hours. But, these 15,000-lb dies will take four hours to be replaced. Such operations unacceptably stall production. This is a problem that many businesses encounter, but we have pinpointed many limitations and turned them into growth opportunities.

At Expert AMT, we understand that the future belongs to those who can supply the market faster. We can make this happen for you. We can create an automated quick-die-change system that can drastically reduce the change time required. Instead of four hours of manual replacement, the system can do it in less than an hour.

Even better, it comes with a safety bonus since no humans are required for the risky task, just like all automated solutions that we have at hand. You only have to come to us to cut down unnecessary and wasted time.

Press Automation

At Expert AMT, we have amassed years of experience in many types of automatic presses. Typically, three types are demanded: the pneumatic, air over oil, and servo press machines. Each has its unique capability and limitation, and each is designed for a specific purpose.

Specifically, each type has different ranges of pressure and control capabilities. Before embarking on the design phase, our engineers will want to find out why you need a press machine in the first place. This is crucial because first, we need to pick the correct press machine for your purpose. For instance, servo presses offer the best control capability, and it offers variable velocities, force feedback, and press analysis.

On the other hand, pneumatic presses would require extra devices to enhance the control. For example, force feedback can be improved with additional sensors called force transducers. Additionally, they’re not as strong as their servo counterparts.

Automated Presses for Manufacturers

As a manufacturer yourself, you’d want to avoid outsourcing your production line needs to multiple suppliers. This burdens you with the unnecessary hassle and extra time-consuming tasks. We’re proud to tell you that Expert AMT can take care of all your automated presses needs in your production lines from start to finish.

We are capable of providing you with our pneumatic or servo-electric presses and integrated solutions. So, you won’t need to hire another supplier for another product. We want you to focus all your resources on the goal of your business: increase production. We helped many customers exceed their yearly revenue goals with our innovative solutions.

We can build many feed systems, including servo-feeds and straighteners, fast die replacement systems, and machine tending systems with robotic arms involved. We can deliver tailored solutions designed for your purposes only. Our team will sit with you to understand your goals and how you’re willing to reach them. After we get our vision aligned, we settle on the specifications and start the design process.

You’ll find that working with a leading manufacturing company like ours has its perks. We choose to partner with high-end companies who consider us credible and influential, so you will get the needed boost from our partners. Also, our specialists only pick the finest material for your parts to ensure durability and strength in the long term.

Not only do we pick the best material, but we also work on the most robust and popular design software to ensure design feasibility in no time. We start designing mechanical parts and assemble them virtually on Catia V5/V6 and SolidWorks once we agree on the revised concept and its specifications. Thanks to our software skills, we can accurately assess design risk and conduct an ergonomic simulation for your automated product.

When robotics is needed in the solution, a simulation should be conducted earlier in the design phase before setting up installations. Our engineers use Siemens Process Simulate to make this happen. Simulations are beneficial for our communication with our clients so that they see the end result before implementation. The client’s feedback at this stage lets us know whether we are fully aligned on the expected outcome.

For a head start in the design phase, we can easily import your facility’s drawings on AutoCAD and FactoryCAD software. You don’t have to worry about design complications since we already thought of everything and learned from previous lessons in the field.

Automated Solutions

Automation is the new black in press manufacturing, although this term has been around since forever. At Expert AMT, we spot opportunities and solve a problem that your own engineers cannot identify. Only with our expertise and powerful software capabilities can you take your business to the next level. Our automated solutions are built by cross-functional teams who work in harmony to produce something spectacular.

Our mechanical and electrical departments integrate these independent systems and turn them into reality without design conflicts.  For example, we fully integrated our automatic solutions into traditional mechanical systems to bring automated presses into reality. Let’s look into design aspects that our team can excel in.

Before we start the design phase, our engineers sit with you to understand your requirements to align your vision of the automated product with yours. Our engineers suggest design modifications to avoid issues from arising during the execution phase. With our experience, we design parts that can be manufactured and avoid those that only work on paper.

Even better, our “Design for Manufacture” expertise will save you thousands of pounds in costs. We can reduce the number of individual parts needed and waste. So, we need you to fully trust our process and let us support you with the skills and knowledge we amassed over the years in this industry.

Likewise, our design is based on our long-term vision of a successful assembly process that individual parts will go through. No design process is complete without correctly building these puzzle pieces that can produce a clear picture. Initially, we will select the appropriate material, use emerging joining techniques, and propose error-proofing measures.
